About Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Neurodevelopmental disorders impair the growth and development of the brain and nervous system. These disorders include Pervasive Developmental Disorders such as: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, as well as various psychiatric disorders. Our society has seen an incredible rise in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) (Autism, ADD, ADHD, etc) in the last 10 years. The current research shows 1 in 6 children experience ASD or another sensory processing disorder (SPD).

Prevention and Early Detection

When a child enters our program showing signs of atypical development, Dr. Kekki investigates all possible areas of disruption to the nervous system.
Dr. Kekki looks at the child’s neonatal development, birth history, their early health history as well as their current presentation. Research has shown that some endotoxins a child may be exposed to while in utero can directly lead to impaired motor function. Further exposure to environmental, vaccine-related or foodborne toxins can also continue to compromise immune function. As the detoxification enzymes that children have work more slowly or may be lacking, they are more susceptible to these toxins. These toxins remain in the body, primarily housed in the brain and gut. Nearly 80% of the immune system is housed in the gut, and chronic inflammation in the gut due to these toxins can further impact inflammation levels throughout the body, including the brain.

So how do you know if your child is dealing with this kind of chronic inflammation? Common signs of this inflammation, which leads to nervous and immune system dysfunction are as follows: asthma, allergies, colic, chronic infections, difficulty sleeping, gastrointestinal issues, and picky eating habits.

Our Brainwaves in Motion program combines optimum nutrition, neurology, neurointegrative exercises, cranial-sacral/myofascial techniques, and chiropractic together in order for children or adults with Neurodevelopmental Disorders to achieve their maximum life potential.  Our program is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure neurodevelopmental disorders; including that of autism.  The focus of our program is to naturally support the neuroimmune, neurogastric, neuromuscular, and neurobiomechanical systems to allow maximum innate human expression. Individuals presenting with neurodevelopmental disorders are known to have one or more of these systems operating at some level of dysfunction.

A similar philosophy can be applied to the treatment of those that have experienced traumatic brain injuries (stoke, head injury, etc), due to the similarities of presentation. However, the underlying problem is completely different. Those that have Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Crohn’s Disease, and other neuro-degenerative diseases and auto-immune disorders have found relief and improved health with this focused program.
